With 40 years of experience, Werner Patels has seen and done it all. He specializes in sophisticated and challenging texts, such as marketing copy, advertising, fiction, essays, press releases, etc. Werner also handles contracts and similar legal documents (e.g., privacy policies). Areas he works in include marketing, tourism, environment, law, luxury brands, politics, history, e-learning, etc. These days, he prefers to work on "long form" texts: books (fiction & non-fiction), or magazine and academic articles or essays. Most recently he has translated a series of three psychological thrillers from German into English for a major American publisher.
Werner Patels has worked for government agencies (such as in Ontario and Québec, Canada), major banks, various retailers in Europe and major hotels. Clients have included Rolex, Baloise, ETH Zurich, City of Basel, VP Bank, Health Canada, and many others.

Languages have always played a major role in Werner's life. English and German were his first languages, and later he learned French, Latin, Greek (modern & ancient), Spanish, Japanese, etc.He started working as a freelance translator in 1987 and completed a Master's degree in translation, conference interpreting, and political science in 1997. Werner also has a Cambridge University teaching certificate (he taught languages in Toronto for several years, for example). In addition, he spent some time in TV news, writing for TV, and working as a political pundit on national TV in Canada for a while.
